A MESSAGE FROM Alexander

Sandra Maynard Ryan, a profound educator, an energetic and lively soul, and a linchpin to my family. Dennis Rebelo Sr, a methodical thinker, a doer, and a genuine human.


In 2021, Sandra passed away. Ovarian cancer was the culprit. 363 days later, Dennis passed away. This time there were two culprits—lung cancer and lymphoma.


In two years I watched my two role models fight, fight, and fight. Sandra and Dennis did not complain, did not opt for pity, and did not give up their fight. 


I run the 2023 Chicago Marathon for them. I am choosing to put my body under extreme stress, fatigue, and mental strain. I choose to fight like my grandparents.


It is a privilege and honor to run in their memory. I appreciate all the love and support.
