A MESSAGE FROM Amanda Runs Chicago!
I’m adding more meaning to my miles by running for Still I Run at the Chicago Marathon. Still I Run is the only non-profit that works nationwide to promote the benefits of running for mental health. When you donate to Still I Run you’re helping this amazing organization to provide essential resources, spread awareness, and offer a supportive community to those battling mental health challenges.
I joined Still I Run this year as an ambassador because I know the role running has played in my mental health journey. The last 5 years I battled a miscarriage, becoming a mother to my disabled daughter and one wild little boy! I suffered from postpartum depression and extreme anxiety and although medication helps it isn't a substitute for the pure joy I get from running.
Running the Chicago Marathon has been a dream in the making for over 2 years. The friend I was going to run with in 2023 had decided to defer so I did the same which was upsetting at the time but it was serendipitous in the fact that this year I get to know do it with Still I Run and many of my closest running friends from Moms Run This Town and my RunDisney Family.
The original plan was to race the marathon for a PR. With some recent health battles (both mental and physical) I'm not in a place to make that happen but for an extra challenge I will be joining a few of my friends and towing the start line from the very back of the pack (Dead Last Start).
Anything you are able to give would be appreciated and I will have drawstring bags, koozies and t shirts as incentives!
