A MESSAGE FROM Pack Rat Garage (Jose Perez) BOA Marathon Fundraising
Support My Fundraising Effort for the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Dear friends and supporters,
I am reaching out to you today with a cause that is deeply personal to me, one that represents both a tribute to those who have helped shape my life and a new chapter in my journey of healing and recovery.
From 2003-2005 , I proudly served in the United States Army in Iraq. The experiences I went through during my time there have shaped who I am today, but they also left me with deep scars—both physically and emotionally. After returning home, I struggled with PTSD and addiction, battling the invisible wounds that come from serving in combat. There were days when I felt lost, like I couldn’t see a way out. But over time, I have worked tirelessly to heal, grow, and rebuild my life.
During my time in Iraq, I came to admire the courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment of those who serve in law enforcement. I had always dreamed of becoming a Chicago police officer—walking the streets of the city I love, protecting and serving my community. Life, however, had different plans for me. Though I wasn’t able to pursue that path, my respect for the Chicago Police Department has never wavered. Their dedication continues to inspire me, and I have always felt a connection to those who wear that badge.
Now, as I prepare for the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, I am doing so in honor of the men and women who serve our city—especially the Chicago Police Department. Running the marathon is my way of paying tribute to their sacrifices and dedication, and it’s also a symbol of my own personal journey of overcoming obstacles. Through this race, I’m not only pushing myself physically but emotionally and mentally as well. It's a chance to show that no matter the struggles or setbacks, we can always find the strength to move forward.
I humbly ask for your support in helping me reach my goal. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a significant impact in my efforts. The funds raised will go directly toward supporting my training and race-day expenses, but most importantly, they will serve as a reminder of the incredible community of people who have helped me through my journey.
Please, if you can, click the donate button and help me honor the sacrifices made by our first responders, my fellow veterans, and so many others who have fought their own battles. Your support means the world to me, and I can't do this without you.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
Sincerely,
JOSE A PEREZ
