I chose to join Team GLASA for the 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon because, for 8 consecutive years, I participated in a work trip with patients and families from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. My family and I would travel to Park City, Utah and worked with the National Ability Center assisting amputees in both the preparation for skiing as well as skiing on the mountain. We provided a feeling of normality for the patients by befriending them and participating in activities with them everyday. I made incredible friends, created a home away from home, and learned to never take life for granted due to the young cancer survivors.
The work GLASA provides such as programming to individuals with physical and visual disabilities reminded me of the community and time spent at the National Ability Center. I couldn't think of a better team and cause to raise money for.
Please consider donating to such an amazing cause.
