A MESSAGE FROM Alessia
As a police officer, I’m privileged to have the opportunity to run with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation team for 2025. I am a huge advocate for officer wellness and taking care of our mental and physical health to deal with the stressors of this profession. The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation helps support officers who have been tragically killed or severely injured in the line of duty as well as officer suicide.
I ran my first marathon in Dallas in 2023. My running journey had only began earlier that year. However, a few short months before Dallas, I lost a mentor, Bob Jones, to suicide. Bob was not only my coworker, but my supervisor in the police academy. In the last few years of his life, Bob had picked up running and had gotten into running races.
Bob’s passing hit home for all of us that knew him. In 2024, I raised money for a local 5k supporting first responders in honor of Bob Jones. I feel that bringing awareness to mental health in law enforcement is imperative to prevent another loss of a friend like Bob. Combining a hobby we both shared, while also getting to raise money for such a great foundation is truly an honor. I can’t wait to put my bib on in October and run this one for Bob.
Any and all donations and shares are truly greatly appreciated!
