A MESSAGE FROM Apoorva
Hello!! It's Apoorva once again...
This year has been very challenging for many of us, especially for people living with diabetes. This year has helped us explore so much from our balconies when the world locked down and when we all celebrated virtual hugs on zoom calls. We also found time to read the book that we never managed to finish, we pulled our favorite board game off the shelf. These small gestures, sometimes even insignificant in appearance, are rich in meaning since they are imbued with our time, our dedication, our passion, and our love. The pandemic changed the world and taught many of us, that you fall, you get up, you go back, you make miraculous encounters.
When I was deciding on how would I get back up after testing positive for COVID19 in March 2021, I thought that it’d be great to fundraise for a great organization I have been working at since I came to Boston, a cause I believe in to strengthen the global diabetes community.
Let me begin by introducing you to my journey living with diabetes and my passion to build a strong, powerful and resilient diabetes community. For all those who know me already, I have been living with Type 1 Diabetes for over 13 years and this journey has been full of mindful experiences. Learning from my own journey living with diabetes, I have always been passionate to improve the lives of people living with diabetes across the globe who on a daily basis combat stigma, access to insulin, and struggle of managing diabetes with regular daily life chores. It ain't easy but we still wear a smile and do what we gotta do!
I ran my 1st full marathon in 2018 as "Team Beyond Type 1" for TCS 2018 NYC Marathon and it was exhilarating. It gave me hope that the scoreboard had me-1 and Diabetes -0. The journey continues.... giving hope to so many more learning the art of diabetes. So let's do it again..
This year I will be running with "Team Joslin" to support the Joslin Diabetes Center (JDC). JDC is an independent, non-profit institution affiliated with Harvard Medical School and a federally-funded Diabetes Research Center. We are dedicated to creating a world free of diabetes and its complications. All of the funds raised by the Team Joslin program support the High Hopes Fund here at Joslin. These funds ultimately contribute to Joslin's capacity to prevent, treat and cure diabetes through cutting-edge clinical care and research programs.
So support me by helping me fundraise as I train to run to the finish line... giving hope ... power... and spreading cheer along the streets of Chicago!
Feel free to support the cause with even the smallest contribution. Your contribution will make a huge difference for the lives of people with diabetes.
