A MESSAGE FROM Austin
Hi friends, my name is Austin and this is part of my story. A big part.
I was born in September 1992. My beautiful mother, Stephanie Faith Long, passed in January 1995 due to complications similar to those found in blood cancer. She was born May 20, 1957 and her birthday is celebrated every year.
Growing up, it was me, my dad and my older sister Morgan. My dad got involved with Team in Training around 20 years ago, raising money and awareness for blood cancer while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. He has inspired me to do the same.
My experiences, passions and opportunities have helped shape my purpose, and I'm excited to announce that I am taking on Team In Training’s Resilience Challenge to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I will conquer 500 miles biking, 100 miles hiking, 10 mountain peaks and 50,000 feet of elevation gain throughout the month of September, Blood Cancer Awareness Month, while fundraising and raising awareness for blood cancers. My goal is to raise $2,000 throughout September, and every bit counts!
Blood cancer patients need our support now more than ever in these challenging times. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is at the forefront of the fight against cancer and provides critical support to blood cancer patients across the country.
I'm sharing my story and getting involved with Team in Training to not only raise money, but to connect with others, strengthen my community and leave a positive impact. I currently live in Mammoth Lakes, California amongst the mountains and the high desert. It's here where most of the miles will come from, but I have plans on bike touring the Oregon Coast Bike Route (370 miles) in late September.
I invite you to be #TNTRESILIENT in the face of cancer by making a donation or by joining me in this challenge. Join me on one of my daily bike rides, hikes, or climbs and/or set your own goals for the month of September.
