A MESSAGE FROM Becky's Fundraising Page for the 2023 NYC Marathon
Like many, becoming a mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And like many, I'm lucky to have had great care and easy births. But that's not the case for everyone, and I was horrified to learn about the staggering mortality rates of women during childbirth. Each year, more than 300,000 women around the world die as a result of complications from pregnancy and childbirth. That's 1 woman every 2 minutes. In the US, maternal mortality rates have doubled over the last two decades, which means that for the first time, a woman is twice as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than her mother was a generation ago. Even worse, almost all of these deaths can be prevented by ensuring that women have access to quality and equitable care.
I'm extremely proud to be running the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon in support of Every Mother Counts. This incredible organization works to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. I hope you'll consider making a donation to this important cause. No amount is too small. In fact, just $32 can provide essential prenatal care and delivery supplies for one woman in Tanzania; $50 can pay for five hours of legal counseling for victims of maternal health rights violations in India; and $150 can provide 50 women with clean safe birthing kits in Bangladesh.
Thank you for supporting me and this important cause.
Love,
Becky
