A MESSAGE FROM In Honor of Tatanisha Jackson
I'm running the Chicago Marathon in memory of my sister/cousin Tatanisha Jackson and in honor of her son, my baby cousin, Davion. On September 19, 2024, my cousin Nisha's life was cut short as a result of her son’s mental illness. Her death and my grief have greatly impacted my own mental health.
My late aunt, Theresa Mullin (Tee), introduced me to competitive running in 2015. She was the reason I ran my first half marathon and would support me through training. I often miss our trail walks! After my cousin Nisha passed away, I returned to running as a therapeutic outlet. Tee will be incredibly proud of me when I cross the Chicago Marathon finish line in October!
Too often, treatment and resources for mental health challenges are under-resourced or unavailable, especially for the Black community. I'm running the Chicago Marathon with Team NoStigmas because no one should face mental health challenges alone, and I know all too well the severity of mental wellness.
By choosing to support my fundraiser with NoStigmas, you are helping us continue to break down stigmas surrounding mental health through education and advocacy. Learn more about the work at NoStigmas at NoStigmas.org. And remember to connect with us on all social media platforms @NoStigmas.
You're not alone,
Bria & Team NoStigmas
