A MESSAGE FROM Brooke for Harboring Hearts!
On March 19th, I will be running the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon to raise money for Harboring Hearts, an organization dedicated to providing emergency housing, transportation, food and other critical resources to heart/liver transplant and cardiac surgery patients and their families.
This organization and their mission is very important to me, as I recently joined the junior board of Harboring Hearts in August of 2022. My sister Morgan Murphy, who is also a member of the junior board, was diagnosed with severe Myocarditis in 2013 during the fall semester of her junior year at Georgetown and was admitted to the critical cardiac care unit at Weill Cornell. Her condition quickly worsened and caused Congestive Heart Failure. After a long week in the ICU, her heart function started to improve and was discharged from the hospital on an external defibrillator. I am so honored and excited to be able to run alongside my sisters and raise money for such a great organization with a mission close to our hearts.
Every donation to my run will be donated directly to Harboring Hearts to support patients, families, and caregivers in need who are facing financial hardship associated with heart transplant, liver transplant, and cardiothoracic surgery. Every donation, large or small, is sure to have an impact on a patient and his/her family.
