A Message From Calum
Calum started running at the age of four years old at the 1988 Cajun Cup 1km.
Originally born in Aberdeen, Scotland to Canadian parents, Calum grew up all over the world moving to England, Thailand, Australia, and back-and-forth between the USA and Canada to his current location of Houston, Texas.
His wife, Julie, and three girls Alessandra (7), Holland (4), and Maya (2) have helped define Calum’s running career after a series of Guinness World Records pushing Aley and Holly in the stroller. He is a diverse runner competing in all distances on all terrains in a single year, from speed on the track to grueling ultra’s in the mountains and everything in-between. Neff has also been coaching for over 15 years and operates his own training programs online and locally through Hardloop Endurance.
Neff first watched his Dad run the Houston Marathon in 1989 before competing himself with a debut at the marathon in 2014 (2:35) and again in 2015 (2:22), 2016 (2:23), 2017 paced women's elite athletes, 2018 as media advisory, and 2019 running the Aramco Half in a personal best of 1:07:22.
In 2020 Neff will be the Last Man Starting, an estimated 40 minutes after the gun fires and all participants have crossed the start line, at which point the challenge to pass as many people as possible in the half marathon begins. Each runner caught will earn a pledge for the non-profit Houston Marathon Foundation which awards scholarships and other funding to worthy local recipients. You can donate or pledge yourself and watch out for Neff on race day!
