A MESSAGE FROM Carletta
Hello,
November 2015 I had an opportunity through an "Athenaship" (aka grant) of a lifetime to trek from Key Largo to Key West with Project Athena's Keys To Recovery Adventurers.
We laughed. We cried. We conquered.
When I finished my chemo treatment in 2013, I vowed to live out loud ON and WITH purpose. I have been on a "Keep It Moving" mission. I have been on all kinds of fun and challenging endeavors. Initially, my objective was to take advantage of each day. Approach is with full appreciation and set goals that would remind me that I can(could, would). Now, it's grown to be much more because I want women who are in the midst of a battle to be reminded that brighter days are ahead.
What's that mean for 2016?
June 2016 - I am seeking to complete my first Adventure Race with Project Athena in Santa Barbara, CA. Coincedentally, the date of this race will be almost 3 years to the date of my double mastectomy. Keep It moving! We'll be Kayaking, Mountain Biking, and Hiking our way from point-to-point over a 24 hour period. My Keys To Recovery experience was such an awesome experience. I am incredibly grateful to the gods and goddesses (Project Athena identifies participants as Athenas, gods, and goddesses) who raised funds enabling grants to be given to myself and eight others. It was LIFE CHANGING! As a result, I want to pay it forward and do what was done for me. I am raising money to help future participants live their adventurous dreams in 2016.
The Project Athena Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit founded by Robyn Benincasa in 2007 and based in San Diego. Named for the Greek Goddess of wisdom and war, Project Athena assists women who've endured medical or traumatic setbacks in reaching their athletic and adventurous goals as a part of their recovery. Public donations to the Project Athena Foundation are used to help survivors through "Athenaships"; “Athenaships” are grants that allow survivors to participate in a selected outdoor adventure, and as Benincasa puts it, "help women get their groove back". They assist with entry fees, airfare, coaching, inspiration, specialized equipment, etc, in an attempt to help survivors live their adventurous dreams!
My goal is to raise $2,500. This is where your help is needed. Would you consider giving a tax deductible donation to Project Athena through my fundraising page? As someone who has benefited from this organization, I can wholeheartedly say your donation will be used to help a future participant find a smile that might have been lost during a medical setback.
You'll be helping to remind someone that strength is in numbers but also found within in very places where we become our weakest.
I greatly appreciate any/all support.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Keep It Moving (and smell the roses along the way) ~ CC
