A MESSAGE FROM Carolyn
I am very proud and excited to be running the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, the 50th anniversary of the world's largest and most popular marathon, while spreading the mission of Make-A-Wish! Running this marathon is something I've always wanted to do and I'm thrilled to be able to add more meaning to my miles by being a part of a powerful community that is running to make wishes come true! I also know first-hand how amazing the power of a wish is for children who are critically ill as my own daughter, Nina, was a Wish Kid. To this day, Nina's wish experience (to be a cowgirl) and every single thing everybody at Make-A-Wish did for her (and us) is such a huge part of her cancer survivor story.
Make-A-Wish’s mission is that together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Now more than ever, hope is essential. As COVID-19 has changed the world around us, the critically ill children we serve face increased fear, uncertainty and isolation. The transformative wish journey we provide them is uniquely marked by the power of discovery and the creation of hope, anticipation and resilience. Wishes are needed now and their impact lasts a lifetime. Our business may have changed during this unprecedented time, but our mission has not. We have been granting wishes to kids with critical illness since 1980– that’s 40 years of keeping our promises to kids and families. To date, Make-A-Wish Metro and Western New York has granted over 15,000 wishes to children in the five boroughs of New York City, Nassau county and 17 counties in the Buffalo and Rochester areas!
