A MESSAGE FROM CdP Runs NYC (Again!)
Months ago I applied to run the New York City Marathon for Sandy Hook Promise, the nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones died at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012. With my boys approaching school age, I knew we were no closer to preventing such an occurrence than we were ten years ago when 20 first graders were killed at school. The thought was (and continues to be) both terrifying and so deeply disappointing that I struggle to even describe it.
In hopes of contributing in one small way to end this insanity, I applied for Sandy Hook Promise's charity team. I was waitlisted. I told myself, "Ah. Bummer. Will try again next year." Then the news from Uvalde broke. Four days later, I received a note from Sandy Hook Promise saying they had a spot on their team for me. I cried and said, "I'm in."
Rest assured, I'm not delusional in thinking that me running a marathon is going to end school violence. What WILL is the advocacy and programming from organizations like Sandy Hook Promise. I'm very honored to have the opportunity to rally my community around Sandy Hook Promise so that my boys, their friends, and their educators can go to school ... without the very real chance of being shot and killed ... y'all, that's a FUCKING low-ass bar. Can we all agree on that?
If you're able, please support all the good work Sandy Hook Promise is doing by making a donation and getting involved. Thanks for all your support and encouragement as I work toward getting to the finish line in November.
