A MESSAGE FROM Charlotte
I am so energized to be running my second NYC Marathon for the amazing organization Sandy Hook Promise. It is clear that the United States is suffering from a gun violence epidemic. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in the United States.
I am tired of tragedy after tragedy occurring. Last summer, Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was the most substantial gun safety legislation in three decades, and far more still needs to be done.
Join us in protecting America’s children from gun violence in honor of the precious lives that were taken in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Through programs like Start with Hello and Say Something, SHP utilizes early prevention measures to keep schools and communities safe. The Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund works to pass legislation that advances school safety and mental health and prevents gun violence.
I run for Sandy Hook Promise because children should feel safe at their schools, a place where they should be growing and learning. I run for Sandy Hook Promise because families should be able to go to the mall with their biggest worry being what color shirt will they buy, not if they will live to see another day. I run for Sandy Hook Promise because people should be able to go to a place of worship and not fear for their lives. I run for Sandy Hook Promise because the state of our current society is failing us - we need to do better. We need federal level policies enforcing background checks, banning assault weapons, promoting safe storage, and implementing extreme risk protection orders. And I will keep running until these measures are in place and people feel safe in their communities.
