I am running the Half Marathon this year, because it is always something I have been interested in doing.  But more importantly when approached by my co-worker and hearing her story about the amazing work Texas Children's did for her and her boys I felt this was a great cause. If it weren't for organizations like this my nephew Troy Mercer would not be here.  At the age of 3 he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and suffered a great deal.  There is no need for me to tell you all the details as it is still too emotional for me,  but I will tell you he is one heck of a trooper.  That was nearly 13 years ago.  After beating cancer once, he was recently he was dealt another blow, he was diagnosed Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) that has now turned into Leukemia.  So, I am doing the run this year for my amazing nephew Troy Mercer and hopes that he never loses the fight God gave him and he conquers this next battle laid in front of him.
