A MESSAGE FROM Chloe Runs the NYC Marathon!
I could not be more excited to share that I will be running the New York City Marathon this fall with team PPGNY. This is a dream I've had ever since I started distance running, and it feels all the more special coming out of a very challenging year-plus-long recovery from ACL reconstruction surgery.
Throughout recovery, I found it very difficult to focus on anything outside of the way my body was feeling and functioning in the current moment. For what felt like a long time, every day was the same--my knee was hurt, it was stiff, I was weak and mad and very scared of what was to come. On top of physical pain and emotional disappointment, navigating the health care system felt like a full-time job. It was absolutely exhausting, and in many ways I am still recovering.
But truthfully, I am so lucky. I am so grateful for the body I get to call home, and for the ability to trust it and protect it. To invest in it, to train it, and have it take me places that once felt out of reach. I know so many people across our country and the world don't have that control over their bodies for all sorts of reasons, and my heart breaks for them.
Bodily autonomy and health care for women is an issue I've always been interested in and passionate about. I have so many wildly impressive, ambitious, loving, and talented women in my life and I say without a shred of doubt--our brightest future is one in which women are free to chart their own paths and have the resources to do so. I hope I one day get to live in a world where all girls are cared for and supported and educated, so they can build their lives (and families if they choose) with excitement and knowledge instead of fear. In the meantime, I'm honored to be running the marathon with a charity that actively reaches toward that same future.
If you're still reading this, I appreciate you! Thank you for supporting me always, and for aiding Planned Parenthood's patients and mission. Your dedication makes it possible for them to care for all who need them.
