A MESSAGE FROM Cameron's NYC Marathon Fundraising Page
As a child I grew up in a small family. Two parents, a younger brother and an Aunt. Society has casted the worldly, childless and "mysterious" Aunt/Uncle quite often and I was lucky enough to be a supporting cast member for 15 seasons. In Hollywood terms, that's quite a run. My Aunt Sandy in all of her might standing at 4'11 and 78 pounds on a good day was the toughest SOB that I've ever been around-- But also an intensely wise and considerate human being. This still rings true even now that I've been alive longer without her-- our two shared lifetimes were too brief. She was the person that would show you things your parents could not; She opened my eyes to new experiences and demonstrated a willingness to take risks, challenge the status quo, scrape your knees and keep going. Through various hardships I've faced in my adulthood, I've looked to her for strength. A reason to keep going.
Sandra Jean Holloway was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. (CF) is an inherited life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. It affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat, and digestive juices. It causes these fluids to become thick and sticky. They then plug up tubes, ducts, and passageways. She spent most of her life having difficulties breathing, and having to take into consideration many things most people tend to take for granted. She did not, and would not have let this stop her in her pursuit of life. She traveled the world, volunteered to help her community of Austin, Texas and settled in a home to help and be near her mother, brother and nephews.
Sandy left us on April 3rd, 2008 at the age of 43. Her life was celebrated by her family not too long after and she is often thought about.
I've always enjoyed running, and mostly have done it for me. I am now running the 2023 New York City Marathon in my aunt's honor, and to raise money for other folks who are impacted by Cystic Fibrosis around the world. I'm excited to welcome you to my team, and asking for your support to make this day possible. With all of the hard work and efforts of medical community and people like you, CF patients are now living full-lives into their 60's and 70's. Thank you, Cameron
