A MESSAGE FROM Christian
I'm training for the Chicago Marathon and I've never ran a marathon before. I used to run a lot when I was in the Army, but that was over a decade ago. Since leaving active service in 2012, I've managed to do quite a bit with my life. I graduated from liberal arts school in Chicago, where I studied business and audio engineering. I became a successful music producer and artist manager where I worked on some pretty successful records you might be familiar with. I traveled the country building radio stations in NY, Seattle, Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, Northern Michigan, and more. Now I'm working at NPR, I'm getting my MBA from UCLA, and even starting my own business.
Funny though, sometimes I still feel like I'm not doing anything, that I haven't accomplished what I should have, or that I'm simply not enough. I think a lot of us can oftentimes feel that way, especially veterans that served in Iraq or Afghanistan like me.
So, I'm running this marathon as a reminder it's important to recognize all that we accomplish, the progress that we make, and to accept that there is always a long journey ahead. In order to run, I get to raise money for a charity and I partnered with the Pat Tillman Foundation. Pat Tillman was an NFL player that left his NFL paycheck to serve the country after the September 11th attacks, and I think that's pretty cool. Afterwards, Pat Tillman started a foundation for Veterans looking to contribute even more to society through providing college scholarships. I'm not a scholarship recipient but I care about my brothers and sisters in arms that are looking to do more with their lives.
So, I'm hoping you'll help me raise enough to run on their behalf.
