“Your greatest setbacks are catalysts for your greatest comebacks.” -Matshona Dhliwayo
The mission of Project Athena is to help women who have survived medical or other traumatic challenges reach new athletic goals and achieve their adventurous dreams by providing adventures which allow them to challenge themselves in a positive, fun, non-competitive environment while in the most beautiful and awe-inspiring places on Earth!
As a survivor myself, I know the challenges these women face after such ordeals. I was (luckily only) 18 when I was diagnosed cancer. While the chemo and radiation only lasted a total of eight months, the scars and setbacks took much longer to recover from. I was thankfully young and able to bounce back relatively quickly. I am amazed and inspired by the Athena's who have chosen to take back their lives and not let these setback control them.
In August of 2017, I will join these Athena's, along with other fundraisers to trek THROUGH the Grand Canyon, not once - but twice, over the course of two days. I am looking forward to hearing their stories and celebrating their accomplishments during this journey.
Every dollar raised by a PAF (Project Athena Foundation) adventure participant goes directly to helping an Athena survivor achieve her own adventurous dream as part of her recovery process. PAF provides travel expenses, coaching, equipment, and most importantly, the encouragement and inspiration needed to help these strong, amazing women make the life-affirming transition from Survivor to Athlete.
I'm sincerely grateful for your support in this endeavor - whether as a training partner, cheerleader, or donor. If your company has a matching program, please reference Christina Jillings R2R2R17 in the notes and your contribution will be applied to my total.
