A MESSAGE FROM Christy
Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! By now many of you are familiar with my adventures with The Project Athena Foundation. In June of 2014 I trekked rim to rim to rim in the Grand Canyon with PAF. It was the experience of a lifetime! Our adventure taught me that with the right support team and training we can accomplish the seemingly impossible. In 2015 I planned to paddle/bike/run from Key Largo to Key West with PAF but was unable to complete the training because I was rehabilitating my broken foot. Many of the women and men I met through PAF encouraged and supported me through that challenging time. 2016 is here and I've decided to return to the Grand Canyon! I hope to pass forward all the kindnesses my family and friends have shown me in the past year and to share the feeling of absolute joy I had after completing R2R2R with a new group of Athenas, Gods and Goddesses.
The Project Athena Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit founded by Robyn Benincasa in 2007, based in San Diego. Named for the Greek Goddess of wisdom and war, Project Athena assists women in reaching athletic and adventurous goals as part of their recovery from medical or traumatic setbacks. Donations to the Project Athena Foundation are used to help survivors through "Athenaships". “Athenaships” are grants that allow survivors to participate in a selected outdoor adventure, and as Benincasa puts it, "help women get their groove back". They assist with entry fees, airfare, coaching, inspiration, specialized equipment, etc, in an attempt to help survivors live their adventurous dreams.
It's easy to donate and any amount is greatly appreciated -- whether it's $5, $10, $25 or more. My goal is to raise at least $3000. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support!
Christy (and Chloe but she's not allowed on this adventure!)
