A MESSAGE FROM Clara's Fundraising Page
Hey! My name is Clara and I am running the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in NYC (NAMI-NYC). They support individuals and families affected by mental illness to better lives through education, support, and advocacy. This is an organization I find incredibly important as someone who deals with my own struggles with mental illness. I have been dealing with these struggles for over 10 years. I want to make my younger self, who suffered in silence, proud by publicly stating I deal with mental illness. No one thinks I am weak, if anything they think I am strong and brave for confronting these struggles head-on. Running this race, as well as preparing, will remind me that on the days that feel tough, I can get through difficult things - gosh darn it, I ran a dang marathon! I also dearly love countless people who deal with their own mental health struggles and am running on behalf of all of them. Thank you so much for considering donating. Much love :)
Now, some more on NAMI...Since 1982, NAMI-NYC has provided support to a vastly underserved population of families and individuals who live with mental illness. Their helpline, peer-led support groups, and educational courses allow families and individuals to share their struggles and talk about symptoms, treatments, community resources, and strategies for coping. All groups and classes are facilitated by trained peer volunteers - they have "been there," where you are, and they understand what you're going through. Your donations help NAMI-NYC provide education, support, and advocacy to over 30,000 New Yorkers yearly, all free of charge to anyone who needs them. With your support, they will continue to expand their services to reach more New Yorkers every year. Thank you.
