I’m running the NYC Marathon this year in support of Transportation Alternatives; a nonprofit whose mission is to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and to advocate for better bicycling, walking, and public transit for all New Yorkers. As a lifelong New Yorker, runner, walker and cyclist, TA’s mission means a lot to me.
During the first half of 2021, we’ve lost a record number of New Yorkers to traffic crashes. From 2018 to 2019 cyclist deaths have TRIPLED. These are avoidable deaths and Transportation Alternatives is putting in the work to ensure we don’t continue on this dangerous trajectory.
I believe that safe, accessible, equitable public transportation and streets is key for a healthy, livable New York City. When we make streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists, everyone benefits including motorists. That’s why I’m asking for donations ahead of this year’s marathon. If you’re not able to make a monetary contribution but would still like to offer support, send me a message to learn what you can do to make a difference.
Bless,
Cody C.
