A MESSAGE FROM Courtney's Fundraising Page
Hi everyone! For my very first marathon, I could not be more excited and proud to run with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. As a member of team ASFP, I will be running the NYC Marathon in honor of my amazing dad, my cousin Jessica, and the millions of people impacted by suicide.
On July 26, 2019, our life was forever changed as my family and I suddenly lost my dad to suicide. My dad was selfless, caring, intelligent, hardworking, and generous. Unfortunately, these are not words that people often associate with those who lose their life to suicide. I am determined to speak openly about suicide and mental health, and to break the stigma and silence around one of the leading causes of death in men and the 10th leading cause of death for people in the United States. Running with team AFSP allows me the opportunity to continue the important conversation about suicide prevention and spread awareness about a cause that is critical to the betterment of our world.
Being a member of this team also allows me to honor my dad in a way that is special to me. One of our last memories as a family was when he cheered me on at the St. Jude Half Marathon. He ran along side of me and cheered “Go Court! Run faster! You can do it!” I know running this marathon will make him proud. I will have that memory and those words to carry me through this race.
I will also be honoring my beautiful cousin Jessica. Her smile, spirit, and heart truly brightened this world. Instead of running through Penn Station, I will be running through the city with you in my heart and on my mind. Songs from "Wicked" will be carrying me through.

I hope you will consider donating to such an important cause. Anything you can give is so greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Courtney
