A MESSAGE FROM Dana
I have news! On November 5, I am participating in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon to benefit the Women’s Sports Foundation, an incredible organization that represents a cause very important to me and likely to many of you. WSF was founded in 1974 by the ultimate champion for equality, Billie Jean King, with the mission “to enable all girls and women to reach their potential in sports and life”.
WSF fights for inclusion in sports for girls and women at every level, promotes movement for all women, and highlights the need for female representation at all levels of coaching and sports management. So many of their principles align with my beliefs. Sports shaped my childhood; movement has shaped my career. Most of my experiences in sports and in my career in healthcare have been positive. But not all. There is a disconnect with male leadership and coaching in female sports, as well as medical management for the female versus the male athlete.
Opportunities in movement and sports are STILL not available to many girls and women. Over 50 years since Title IX passed, and there is work to be done.
So, yes, I am doing this. It scares me. It excites me. I’m doing this for those who never had the chance. And I wouldn’t run all these miles if I really didn’t believe in this cause. For those of you who know me know I live to motivate others to move. Well, it is time for me to show up and put my miles where my mouth is.
Thank you for supporting me and WSF!
