A MESSAGE FROM Daniel Harizman's Fundraising Page
This fall, I'm running the New York City marathon in honor of my grandfather and uncle, Ivan and Dean Rostovsky, who I lost this year to cancer.
My grandfather, Ivan Rostovsky, passed away peacefully this March. I will always remember my grandfather for his relentless humor and unwavering love and support for his family.
My uncle Dean Rostovsky, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2020, and after a 3 year fight, succumbed to the illness early this June. He was 52 years old. Those who knew my uncle will forever remember his humble, sincere and gentle character -- Dean will forever be a reminder of how you can always strive to be a better human.
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 9.6 million deaths according to the World Health Organization. Globally about 1 in 6 deaths are due to cancer. Of the 9.6 million deaths, gastric cancer accounts for 783,000; exceeded only by lung cancer (1.76 million deaths) and colorectal cancer (862,000 deaths). I hope in completing the marathon in their honor, I can draw attention and facilitate further treatment research into stomach and esophageal cancers. I thank you for supporting me as well as the DeGregorio Family Foundation.
The DeGregorio Family Foundation is focused on raising funds to support grants the foundation awards. The grants fund research on curing gastric and esophageal cancer. Your donations are very important and much appreciated.
