A MESSAGE FROM Deven's Fundraising Page
Hi! First of all, thank you for even entertaining the idea of donating, it genuinely means the world to me. Let's DO this thing.
Secondly, I'd love to tell you how I got here.
It's as simple as this.
I am at home in two places.
I am at home when I run and I am at home around sober folks.
I grew up with two parents in alcohol recovery. Most of the lessons my dad taught me in childhood can actually be found in the Big Book.
My dad was larger than life, due mostly in part to his dedication to recovery. In May of 2019, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and passed away just 26 days later. It was unfathomable. At his funeral were hundreds of recovered folks, genuinely HUNDREDS. It was clear that he had carried out his mission of a life well lived because he lived his life in service of others.
After he passed, I found a lot of comfort in running. Squeezing in as many miles as I could, drowning out some of the sadness with some good, old fashioned EDM and early 2000’s Lil Wayne tracks.
Flash forward to 2024. I don’t’ drink anymore. I still run quite a bit. And I’m running the marathon.
The best way I know how to carry on his legacy is to carry on his message of living an authentic life and to support those in recovery, those who need recovery, and those who aren’t ready to recover just yet. So I linked up with Release Recovery, an org who's mission is dedicated to supporting those with substance abuse disorders and removing the stigma that exists in behavioral healthcare.
On behalf of Release Recovery, on behalf of my dad, and on behalf of a dedication to being my best self, one day at a time, thank you so much for your donation, your consideration and your support. See you in November :)
