A MESSAGE FROM Lindsay's Fundraising for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Hi friends! I am honored to be running the New York Marathon with team AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). Mental health is still something that is largely misunderstood and unfortunately still stigmatized. Being an occupational therapist at Nationwide Children's Behavioral Health inpatient hospital and caring for patients in mental health crisis I have seen first hand the need for more behavioral health services and research to help children and adolescents. I work with the pediatric population to develop coping skills and encourage more open conversations about complex emotions with their loved ones. I believe mental health is not talked about in the same way as other debilitating illnesses and conditions. AFSP has crisis support for individuals who are having thoughts of suicide and supports for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. AFSP works with schools, workplaces and communities to make mental health a priority.
There is many reasons why I run. I run to take some time out. I run to decompress after a stressful day. I run to explore new places. I run to take in a good sunset and reconnect with myself. I run to celebrate and be with others. I run to show myself how strong my body is and how much it can do. This marathon will be very special to me because I will run for those struggling with their mental health and run to give hope to those affected by suicide.
Please support my fundraising efforts for the TCS New York City Marathon. No donation is too small!
