Hi friends,
Welcome to my fundraising page! I cannot overstate how excited I am to run the NYC Marathon on November 6 with the Release Recovery Team.
About Release Recovery:
The Release Recovery Foundation is a New York based nonprofit dedicated to ensuring all who are ready and willing to seek professional treating for substance abuse and mental illnesses are able to do so. Addiction has had a serious impact on my family over the years, and I very much understand how long and difficult the recovery process is. Substance abuse can be a very misunderstood challenge in our society, and the approach at Release Recovery is both kind and inspiring. Zac and Justin, the founders of the organization, along with their team provide a variety of recovery services to men and women in the New York area including recovery coaching, sober companionship, case management, and more. I am very honored to partner with the organization and appreciate donations of any size.
How I Got (back) into Running:
I’ve had on again, off again issues with mental health since my college years. I’ve always had a difficult time explaining its effects to my friends and family, but it can be very disruptive to daily life. After a very long and very dark winter, a friend suggested that my poor mood may be stemming from general lack of physical activity. On one of the first warm days of Spring, I decided to lace up the running shoes I’ve had in my closet since my high school cross country days and run a few miles on New York’s west side highway. It was one of the most positive experiences I had in months, I found such mental clarity and sense of well-being. Training for this race has not only been a boost for my general well-being but has helped me gain a sense of routine and adherence to a schedule which has helped develop my confidence, personal resolve, and willpower. Through some personal research I found a great charity to partner with for the 2022 New York City Marathon.
Thanks!
Andy
