Hiii Everyone! It's Marissa! I'm thrilled to announce that I will be running the NYC Marathon this fall in support of a cause that's deeply personal to me: First Candle.
First Candle is dedicated to eradicating Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related infant deaths through education and awareness, while also offering vital support to families navigating the unimaginable pain of losing a child.
My connection to First Candle goes beyond the marathon course; it's deeply rooted in honoring the memory of my older brother, Andrew, who tragically succumbed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at the tender age of 8 months. His passing cast a shadow over my family, leaving an everlasting imprint on our hearts. Born after this profound loss, I carry a torch of remembrance not only for Andrew but also for my parents, David and Lisa, as well as my older sister, Laurel, who navigated this grief as one unit. Their courage and resilience inspire me daily. Witnessing firsthand the devastation that SIDS can inflict on a family has ignited a fire within me to advocate for change and ensure that families facing similar tragedies receive the support and resources they need during their darkest hours.
As I train for the NYC Marathon, I'm asking for your support in helping me reach my fundraising goal for First Candle. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in the lives of families impacted by SIDS and other sleep-related infant deaths. Together, we can honor the memory of Andrew and work towards a future where no family has to endure the pain of losing a child too soon.
And to our Little Lamb, Andrew. In every sunset and sunrise, I know you are with us as a family. I know you will be running with me every step I take, and I look forward to the day I get to run with you in Heaven. I love you.
Your baby sis,
Marissa
