Welcome to my journey!
I've been an Atlanta Track Club member for probably 10+ years. I love running the Peachtree and sporting all the ATC swag.
In 2019, I stepped up my running game and ran my first marathon - Chicago. A few months later in 2020 (before Covid lockdowns), I ran the Disney. I then had my eyes on the NYC Marathon. But, with the huge demand for group events, I wasn't able to get a bid.
Determined to find a way in, I looked around online and discovered the Atlanta Track Club was putting together a team of five people to run for the club and raise money for their Kilometer Kids program. I applied and was blown away when I was selected. I'm running the NYC Marathon in November!!!
As a team, we have a goal to raise $25,000 for Kilometer Kids ($5,000 each). Please read about this great program below and throw a little money at this fantastic cause. Thank you!!
Kilometer Kids is Atlanta Track Club's oldest and largest youth running program. The free, game-based curriculum is designed to teach kids in K-8th grade about goal setting, healthy habits, respect, and community building, all through exposing them to the sport of running. Over the course of the season, the goal for every Kilometer Kid is to run 26.2 miles or the equivalent of a marathon by attending two practices a week for 10 weeks. There is no fee to participate, and the program is for all elementary and middle school students regardless of running ability or experience. As a noncompetitive program, being a Kilometer Kid is not about running the fastest or winning the race. Instead it's all about working hard, being kind and having fun while becoming more physically active, being a part of a team and finding joy in the process.
