A MESSAGE FROM Fredd's Fundraising Page for the Bronx River Alliance
The Bronx River is New York City's one and only freshwater river. For years, it has been a dumping ground. The water became so dirty you wouldn't want to touch it. At one point, it was even called an open sewer. People started to neglect it. But not everyone stopped caring. The Bronx River Alliance was created by a small band of locals who had a dream to make the river healthy again. They hauled out cars, tires, refrigerators and a whole lot of garbage. They planted trees and established pathways and parks. They gave the Bronx River a voice at community meetings, in government and on the streets...and that's how they got me. I am so inspired by the things they do for the Bronx River.
I started volunteering with the Bronx River Alliance in 2021, two years after I arrived from the Philippines. I planted my first ever native tree here in the US during their forest restoration activity in Shoelace Park along the Bronx River. From then on, I have been visiting the river more often to nurture the young trees we planted in order to ensure their survival. I continue to help remove trash whenever I go jogging along the Bronx River Greenway which the Alliance helped create.
I believe in the mission and vision of the Bronx River Alliance that is why I joined this fundraising campaign together with 4 other charity runners. This will be the first time I will be running a marathon for a cause that is worth supporting and I am very excited about it.
Kindly support my fundraising efforts for the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon Fundraising. No donation is too small. Please click on the "Donate Today" button!
