A MESSAGE FROM Ryan's Fundraising Page - NYC Marathon 2023
This may be my 3rd full marathon (although it's been 11 years since my last!), but this time it's extra special.
Not only have I been on a transformational health & fitness journey this past year (I'm down 75 lbs and am running again, for starters!), but my husband, Elias, and I have also started the process of building our family through IVF/surrogacy. I've wanted to be a Dad for as long as I can remember, and I'm so excited about this dream becoming a reality within the next couple of years.
While this process is exciting, it is also complex, daunting, expensive, and at times very confusing -- especially as an LGBTQ+ couple. The road ahead is long, but it's a marathon, not a race, right? ;-)
That's why I'm running the New York City Marathon with RESOLVE--the National Infertility Association--which is an organization I have personally come to know and love over the past year.
Among the many services RESOLVE offers, they offer many specifically for LGBTQ+ aspiring families. LBGTQ+ families/couples sadly face many layers of barriers including medical, legal, and limited access on how they can pursue a family. On top of that, cost is yet another additional obstacle that also stands in the way. It can be overwhelming, to say the least.
