A MESSAGE FROM Crossing the Canyon for Mom
On November 2, 2022, my mom, Molly was taken from us way to young. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer referred to as glioblastoma. The doctors told us it wasn't really a matter of "if" but "when" she would pass. Besides a round of chemotherapy and radiation to slow the growth of the tumors there wasn't much else they could do. The cancer attacked her brain hard and fast. Mom made it almost three months. It was a brutal time for everyone who loves Molly and I could only imagine what she felt like going through that.
Brain cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the world. It does not discriminate and within five years of diagnosis, 3 out of every 4 patients will die. Some brain cancers, like glioblastoma multiforme, have a median survival rate of one to two years, even with aggressive chemotherapy and radiation. The causes of brain tumors are currently unknown and there are no known lifestyle factors that increase your chances of developing brain cancer.
I'm joining forces with 3000 Miles to a Cure to raise desperately-needed funds for brain cancer research. On October 2nd, 2023, 11 months after we said goodbye to Mom, I will join a small team of brain cancer warriors hiking 26 miles from the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We will complete this crossing in one day to bring hope to those fighting brain cancer. Mom always pushed me to be my best self and I know she will be shining down on us through this journey.
Thank you for joining me in this race to #beatbraincancer.
