A MESSAGE FROM Adam's Fundraising Page
Hi there,
The mission of Blue Card (https://bluecardfund.org/) is to help raise funds and awareness for Holocaust survivors living at or below the poverty line in the US. This funding provides critical financial assistance for Holocaust survivors to live out their golden years with dignity and respect, so that they don’t need to choose between paying for food, rent, medicine, or utilities.
Prior to moving to New York from Los Angeles, it was easy for me to get involved in my community. My mother, a non-profit leader in LA, challenged me to seek opportunities to engage with and help those in need. Volunteering has always been a key component of my life but doing so once I moved to a new city - and during the pandemic - was a challenge.
Thankfully, my company, Betterment, organized a volunteer week for employees. With my co-workers, I mentored low-income students and helped build a resource website for schools in the New York City area during the pandemic. This opportunity left me eager to find even more ways to give back to my community.
Fast forward to today and running feels like the perfect way to do so. As background, in 2014, I ran the Madison Half-Marathon with several college friends for fun. It was then that running became my release. I said to myself that I would run a marathon in the city I moved to after college.
Little did I know I would be moving home to LA. In 2017, I ran the Los Angeles Marathon with my friend Cameron. As an Angeleno, my connection to the city deepened as I ran through each neighborhood, from Dodger Stadium to the Pacific Ocean. It remains one of my fondest memories and proudest achievements.
This time, I am running for something more, in the city I currently call home. After a devastating year, I hope to rise to the occasion and support those most in need.
Many of you know that supporting Holocaust survivors and sharing their stories has meaningfully shaped my identity. From volunteering with Jewish Family Services’ Cafe Europa (https://www.jfsla.org/program/survivors-of-the-holocaust/), being a participant and counselor for BJE March of the Living (https://www.bjela.org/MOTL), to now raising funds and running with Team Blue Card -- I hope to honor the legacy of Holocaust survivors who have left their mark on me - and all those currently in need - by giving back to them.
Please help me and my team by donating to Blue Card and sharing our mission with your family and friends! No amount is too small, and I am immensely grateful for your support.
I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read my message and consideration in supporting this important cause! Your support means the world.
I am running this year’s TCS NYC Marathon on November 7th, 2021 as a member of Team Blue Card and reaching out to humbly ask for your support.
