What I'm Running For

At least 5 million people worldwide have a form of Lupus and experience symptoms such as chronic pain, loss of memory, significant fatigue, and physical impairments that impact every facet of life.

My mom is one of these 5 million people. She has had Lupus from an early age and has experienced these very symptoms and many more. She is a passionate teacher, an incredible cook, and an inspirational woman. She loves working with children to help them reach for the stars, but due to the setbacks caused by Lupus she has been unable to work full-time as a teacher.

Throughout my life, my family and I have seen my mom have wonderful days filled with enough energy and excitement to tackle the world - and on other occasions we've seen her struggle to get out of bed due to exhaustion and pain.

This year, I am choosing to run the New York City Marathon for Team Life Without Lupus because of how inspired I am that she has not let Lupus hold her back from living a meaningful and happy life.

A marathon is 26.2 miles or 138,435 feet and I'll take every step for Team Life Without Lupus because of the support and research the Lupus Research Alliance provides to help those like my mom.
