My twin brother Connor turns 15 on December 22, 2020. Connor battles more serious health issues than most any other person his age but he has also accomplished the following in the past year. Connor made the AB honor roll and won the Social Studies award in the 8th grade. Connor and his brother also started a lawn care business Spring Hope Lawn Care with his brother Austin 2 summers ago. Connor is the director of Operations for Spring Hope Lawn Care and communicates to the customers of Spring Hope Lawn Care. We are very proud of Connor for everything Connor accomplished overcoming severe disabilities.
Connor's body is missing the critical protein dystrophin due to having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Dystrophin is crucial for the functioning of all muscle cells, including the heart, and the muscles supporting the lungs. DMD is progressive, which means it will worsen over time. DMD is also 100% fatal (life expectancy is between 18-25 years of age). Young men with DMD have been living longer in this generation because of all of the aggressive treatments and medications that have become more common in recent years. We are hopeful Connor will benefit from the care and treatments that we have coordinated with him since we learned of his diagnosis in May 2008. Connor takes steroids (emflaza - deflazacort) daily to help slow the progression of the disease. Connor also takes Fosamax for osteoporosis he has caused by daily high dose steroids. Connor is on two heart medicines that can make him tired, in addition to taking many vitamins, anti-oxidants and supplements for Calcium, Vitamin D3, CoQ10. We have seen our fundraising money at work and there are many drugs in the pipeline that will hopefully help DMD boys now in their lifetime.
I am running for my twin brother Connor and all the boys with DMD. Please support my fundraising efforts for the 2020 Houston Marathon Race Weekend. No donation is too small. Please click on the donate button!
In Hope,
Austin
