Hi, my name is John Jamieson and I'm running the Chicago Marathon and raising money for Shriners Children's Chicago!
Running has been a passion of mine since I was 17. Growing up I played football, but due to an injury I needed to stop after my junior year. In its place, I joined the Cross Country team instead and got used to running 5k's, which during college grew into 10k's and half marathons. I have now run 3 marathons (Baltimore in 2016 and 2017, and Sugarloaf in 2018) and each time has reminded me of just how far 26.2 miles really is. And yet, this year I'm going to do it again. I run for many reasons. It gives me a chance to clear my mind. A way to explore new areas. A sense of accomplishment when you see your hard work and dedication during training pay off on race day. And this year I am adding another reason to run - a great cause.
Shriners Children's is a network of non-profit medical facilities across North America. Their mission is to provide high-quality specialty medical care to the children and families who come to them, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status. At Shriners Children's Chicago, children are able to receive care in the areas of Orthopedics, Spine & Spinal Cord, Congenital Neuromuscular Disorders, Sports Medicine, Craniofacial, and Pediatric Rehabilitation & Therapy. For children these treatments can be life-changing. And for their families who would not otherwise be able to provide their children the care that they need, it can be a miracle. Please help me support this great cause and help children and families in need!
