A MESSAGE FROM Avaise's Fundraising Page
In 2019, my father Randy Adams began experiencing symptoms that doctors struggled to pinpoint. After years of uncertainty, he was diagnosed in 2023 with a rare neurological disorder called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
MSA affects the body’s motor functions, including balance, coordination, walking, speaking, and many other everyday abilities. The disease shares many similarities with Parkinson’s disease, and unfortunately, there is currently no cure. Life expectancy is typically 7–10 years from the onset of symptoms.
Anyone who knows my father knows him as an outgoing, lively man who would do anything to put a smile on someone’s face. My father is my idol and the reason I am the person I am today. Growing up, people have always told me that I am a mirror image of him. From our loud personalities to our goofy behaviors. Watching him struggle and lose so many of the abilities he once took for granted has been truly heartbreaking.
Throughout my life, my mother has always been one of the strongest people I know. She has consistently put her family before herself, making countless sacrifices while continuing to support my father every single day. Watching and experiencing the changes within our family has not been easy. The steady progression of my father’s condition, along with the challenges faced by so many others living with MSA, is heartbreaking.
Because of my father’s journey, I have decided to do everything I can to help raise awareness, support education, and contribute to efforts toward finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for MSA.
I have always loved running, but watching my dad gradually lose his ability to perform everyday motor functions has given my passion for running a much deeper meaning. I have become more grateful than ever for the ability to run, and in 2027, I will be running for my father.
Mission MSA has partnered with the Los Angeles 2027 Marathon, which I have committed to running in support of this cause. Mission MSA is a 501(c)(3) charitable patient advocacy organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and building hope for people affected by MSA through emotional support, trusted education, and patient-centered research.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help support this mission and bring greater awareness and hope to families affected by MSA.
The process is fast, easy, and secure. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me, my family, and everyone impacted by MSA. If you can donate, I would be incredibly grateful. And please consider sharing this page with friends, family, or anyone who may be interested in supporting this cause.
I’m running for my dad. ❤️
