A MESSAGE FROM Team Tommy
I am running this year’s New York Marathon in memory of Tommaso Cerase. Back in 2017 Tommaso finished his 3rd Grade and had to present a project he completed during the academic year. The essay he chose to write was about education. He was eight at the time and felt passionately that everyone should have the right to education and that it should be free and accessible to all. He believed that education should not be a privilege but a right without any discrimination. Tommaso's family were proud and surprised as he was attending a private school himself at the time, however clearly the discussions he had in class and at home and what he saw around him made a strong impression!
Sadly we lost Tommaso at the age of nine in a tragic accident in New York on 17th September 2017. In honour of Tommaso and his beliefs, a team of us are running the marathon to raise money for Pencils of Promise (PoP) https://pencilsofpromise.org/. PoP is passionate about education and builds classrooms in partnership with public school systems and communities in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos to ensure that all students have access to a safe and healthy place to learn. The cost of a new school is approximately $50,000 and to date PoP have impacted the lives of more than 113,000 students.
I know it’s been a tough year for many but if you would like to make a donation, no matter how big or small it would be immensely appreciated!
Thank you
Lesley
