A MESSAGE FROM tram's ONE marathon
Hi. I'm Tram. It all started that one summer night as I waited for my ride to Soundbar. I was introduced to "Couch to 5K" app. That night I heard the words "You Are Worth It" for the first time in my life.
It was not easy, but I conditioned my body to run to the mailbox without being out of breath and then some. Before the pandemic, I crossed the finish line of the Chicago half marathon on my birthday! With each race, my goal was to never allow the closing trucks to pick me up.
I am beyond honored Apna Ghar chose ME to run the Chicago marathon on their behalf. My friends know me as the one who advocates, the one who cares more for others than myself, the one who wants to save the world. How fitting is it that I would be running for a non-profit that ultimately rooted my volunteerism these past pandemic years?
No donation is too small. Please donate what you can. Knowing you are here reading my story gives me the encouragement to train and run 26 miles and 385 yards (42.195km).
Apna Ghar means 'Our Home' in Urdu and Hindu. This amazing non-profit organization provides a home for those in need, a majority who seek help are women of color.
Apna Ghar provides 24/7 crisis support, housing, counseling legal, medical and social service advocacy, supervised visitation and safe exchange services, and conducts outreach and advocacy to end gender violence.
Empower Engage Elevate
Empower, Engage, Elevate is what Apna Ghar does and this will be my Chicago marathon mantra.
Oh, and did I tell you this is the FIRST marathon of my lifetime? (Bucket list opportunity here!)
From my heart, I thank you for your support. You have impacted me in one way or another; and the extent is more than you will ever know.
