A MESSAGE FROM Nicole is Running The 2024 NYC Marathon!
I appreciate you taking the time to read my story as to why I am running the 2024 NYC Marathon with Answer the Call.
Answer the Call, otherwise known as The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. ATC's mission is to provide financial assistance and a network of support to the families of NYC police officers, firefighters, port authority police officers, and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty. Not only do they provide immediate support to families when they lose a loved one in the line of duty, but they also provide assistance for the rest of the widow or widower’s life.
If you are here - you probably know my story. In 2012, my dad passed away unexectedly from undiagnosed heart disease. He was our rock and he was now gone within seconds, in our home, with all of us around. The immediate support from first responders was the only light we had on the scariest, darkest, most traumatic night of our lives. As we began our grieving journey, I noticed that the resources for grieving children and widows were lacking - basically non-existent. There was no guide, system, or even social media account to turn to to help navigate the unknowns of grief.
Because of our story and the impact of our incredible hometown PD and first responders, my brother is a police officer with that same, incredible team - Waterford Police Department, Connecticut.
I ran the 2021 NYC Marathon as my 5th marathon. It was the most incredible experience - and I knew if I ran again - it had to be with a charity that resonated with me. First responders, NYPD, grieving children and families - Answer the Call is that one! I am HONORED to run and raise support, awareness, and resources for the grieving families of NYC first responders.
Any donation is appreciated.
Thank you SO much!
Run happy,
Nicole
