A MESSAGE FROM Reanas Chicago Marathon Fundrasing
Hello everyone, my name is Reana Duran and some of you may know I am running the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon with The Assist team! I’m running to help create safer sports through The Athlete Survivors’ Assist (The Assist) — a survivor-led nonprofit working to end sexual violence in athletics. The Assist provides crucial peer support for survivors, delivers education and trauma-informed training to teams and organizations, and advocates for stronger protections and accountability across all levels of sport.
During my sophomore year of college, I was sexually assaulted and raped by someone who was an athlete at my school and who was a friend. Nothing ever happened to him. Sexual violence is far too normalized—especially within the athletics community—where power, status, and silence often protect perpetrators. For athletes and those assaulted by athletes, coming forward can feel impossible. I get it. Speaking up can mean risking your team, your scholarship, your future, and everything you’ve worked for.
This cause is incredibly near and dear to me. I am running with The Assist Team to put an end to the culture that excuses sexual violence and silences survivors. By sharing my story, I hope to show other survivors—especially athletes—that they are not alone, that what happened to them matters, and that one day they may feel safe and strong enough to share their own story too.
Your donation directly supports this mission and helps ensure every athlete can compete safely and confidently. Thank you so much for your support — together, we’re changing the game! 💙
