A MESSAGE FROM Dawn's Fundraising Page - Team Joslin Team Grandpa
Has anyone else found themselves in a bit of a COVID funk?
I haven't been myself and have felt isolated. I recently decided that I have been in my COVID bubble and funk for way to long.
For inspiration, I thought of my grandpa who has inspired me in so many way. He was a pioneer in education, a dedicated family man, and an active community leader, always giving of himself to support others.
He also always believed in me even when I did not. Like when I didn't think I could "climb to the top of the tower", he was there to give me confidence, cheer me on, and celebrate my accomplishment.
I also remembered him watching NYC Marathon on TV each year. From time to time we would talk about me running it and how fun it would be for him and my grandma to come watch me. I dreamed about it but didn't think it would be realistic due to the qualifying standards and the lottery entry.
I recently learned there was another way to enter the race and that is as part of a Team Running for Charity. I again turned to my grandpa for inspiration and thought about his life-long battle with type 1 diabetes. And that is when I came across Team Joslin and the Joslin Diabetes Center. As I learned more about them, I knew I wanted to get involved and help raise money to race toward a cure for diabetes. I will run in memory of my grandpa, to honor my friends Leslie and Dana and all those struggling with diabetes.
Below is some more information about this amazing organization. If you are inspired by their work, please consider contributing to my fundraising campaign. All donations are tax-deductible.
Regardless if you contribute to the fundraising, I encourage you to chase your dreams no matter how small or big. As soon as I applied to join the Joslin Team, I shifted. My energy was noticeably different. I was excited and motivated. (My point here is just my first step, the application, was enough to shift me.) I made it "in" the team and am on my way "out" of my funk.
Time for me to getting running. I'll update you along the way. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.
