I'm a runner — it's central to who I am. For the last two years, I've been running toward a healthy future, managing my Cowden-like Syndrome that puts me at elevated risk for multiple cancers. In 2024, it was Stage III endometrial cancer, followed by surgery, chemo, and radiation. This year, colorectal cancer arrived. Fortunately, my April surgery came back Stage 1 – no further treatment — just recovery and surveillance. 
The 2026 Brave Like Gabe 5K will be my first race since surgery. I'll be walking most of it, and I'm okay with that — Gabe's approach was never about pace; it was about showing up and doing your best. That's what this race means to me: not a finish time, just a chance to run for the joy of it again.
