About Me
Hi! I'm excited to
be running the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon alongside a team of women
supporting the New York Junior League, an organization I have proudly
volunteered with since 2016. Personally, I volunteer with and serve on the
Playground Improvement Project which partners with the NYC Departments of Parks
and Recreation to plan and execute a yearly large-scale park or playground
improvement project in Manhattan. We focus on parks that need restoration and
that will have the greatest impact on the surrounding community.
My goal is to raise $3,500 for the NYJL, and 100% of this will go directly to supporting our amazing community partners. This is my first ever marathon, and I would be so grateful for any donation, no matter how small, to support the New York Junior League. Continue to read how you can support me (@julesherlihy) and Team NYJL (@thenyjl) on our journey to 26.2, but most importantly our mission to serve our city.
About the New York Junior League
The New York Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
How We Contribute to the Communities in NYC
As the oldest all-women and one of the largest volunteer service organizations in New York City, the NYJL has approximately 2,800 volunteers who contribute more than 250,000 hours of service annually. More than 50 committees support the community needs of New York City as well as the institutional needs of the organization.
The NYJL’s purpose is improving the lives of women and children in Manhattan by working with community-based organizations and public agencies to deliver services and assistance directly to those in need.
How YOUR DONATION will Contribute to the Communities in NYC
A $25 donation allows the NYJL to purchase metro cards for disadvantaged teens to use while traveling during career exploration field trips. $50 allows NYJL to provide craft supplies to young children in after school programs. With $100 NYJL can help a runaway teenage acquire the basic clothing needed when he or she arrives at a shelter. $200 is all the NYJL needs to provide backpacks full of summer reading materials for students in our literacy program, Reading Rangers. With a donation of $300, the NYJL is able to provide a kit of kitchen supplies to one of our community partners that enables underprivileged families to cook healthy meals. A generous donation of $500 allows NYJL the ability to install a library in a location where there is no access to books of computers.
Every donation, no matter how small helps. All donations will go towards the NYJL's commitment to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and improve communities through the effective action of leadership and trained volunteers.
