A MESSAGE FROM J's fundraiser in honor of Rhoda Dellecave
On November 6, 2022, I am running the NYC marathon in honor of my mother Rhoda Dellecave, who passed away after a brief and aggressive battle with cancer in 2020. My mother was the swimming leg of a triathlon when she was 50--a milestone that kept her spirits up in her last days--and as I am nearing the age of 50, this race and this year called to me.
A marathon has been on my bucket list since I ran cross-country as a young teenager. Returning to running in my thirties helped my cope with grown-up stress as my life path blossomed. Training for this marathon has allowed me to continue processing my grief over my mother's sudden passing.
I chose to run in support of Red Door Community (formerly called Gilda's Club) because I received vital grief support from this organization during the height of the pandemic. Red Door Community's FREE online grief groups were a beacon of light in my healing process.
