A Message From Sarah
I am super excited to begin training for my next crazy adventure! This year, I will hike the Grand Canyon--from Rim to Rim to Rim! Last year, I trained for the 24 hour Santa Barbara Intro to Adventure Race. In the spring, I injured my back and was unable to participate in the biking and hiking portion of the trip. I did complete the 14 miles of kayaking in the Pacific Ocean, though! I was able to help the crew and add support (emotionally and physical) to the team. After returning home, I decided to sign up for the Keys to Recovery adventure. I trained for this adventure as well--my back was slowly becoming up to par, thanks to a great chiropractor and a back procedure. Unfortunately, I was unable to raise the necessary funds to participate, and I decided to back out. Moving forward, I am starting early, and already training for the EPIC journey that will happen in August. I am also starting NOW with fundraising! No amount is too small. Stay tuned for fundraising events and crazy bids. Project Athena saved me from myself in 2013. I suffered near-fatal pulmonary embolisms in 2011, and had gained a significant amount of weight. I was contacted by PAF in the summer of 2013, asking if I would like to do one of their adventures provided by a grant. I jumped on the opportunity and found myself in the Florida Keys in November 2013 for 120 miles of kayaking and biking. It was amazing! I became part of a family that I never knew that I needed. Project Athena forever changed my life. Moving forward, I have now lost 133 pounds, I am active, I have so many new amazing friends all over the world through Project Athena. I have gained confidence. I am branching out and trying new CRAZY things. Would I ever dream or dare to hike the Grand Canyon? HECK NO. But here we go! Please support my fundraising efforts for the Project Athena Fundraising. No donation is too small, please click on the donate now link below!
