A MESSAGE FROM Lisa's NYC Marathon Fundraising Page for Team Life Without Lupus!
In November, I’ll be running my first-ever full marathon with Team Life Without Lupus at the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon!
It’s been a major life goal of mine to run the NYC Marathon, and I’m honored to raise funds for the Lupus Research Alliance, the leading nonprofit in lupus research, to advance the fight against this debilitating disease and move closer to finding a cure.
What is lupus? It’s a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack your tissues and organs, leading to widespread inflammation and tissue damage throughout your body. An estimated 1.5 million Americans and at least 5 million people worldwide have some form of lupus.
My mother was diagnosed with lupus in 2019, shortly after I moved from SF to NYC. She was in and out of the hospital for months before she was officially diagnosed. My mom is the strongest and most resilient person I know – she grew up in Vietnam during the war, beat breast cancer (even undergoing chemotherapy while performing on stage as a singer), and faced numerous hardships in her life. Seeing her fight for her life with the effects of lupus has been incredibly heartbreaking, and it’s painful to know that there hasn’t been a cure yet. While she’s been able to figure out her triggers, no day is the same for her. I’m hopeful that one day we’ll be able to find a cure.
I’m incredibly honored to raise funds for the Lupus Research Alliance – 100% of your donations will directly support lupus research programs aimed at enhancing diagnostics, improving treatment options, and ultimately finding a cure.
Thank you all for your support as I take on 26.2 miles alongside Team Life Without Lupus!
