A MESSAGE FROM Carey's Fundraising page for the Tokyo Marathon!
Dear friends, family and longtime supporters,
I realized early on, that my marathon journey was way more meaningful if it was less about my own personal goals and much more about who and what I could support along the way. I remain super proud of completing a marathon in all 50 states, where most of those states were dedicated to raising money and awareness (over $200K) for Every Mother Counts, an incredible organization focused on changing the outcome of preventable complications of pregnancy and childbirth. From there, I turned my efforts to The Michael J. Fox Foundation to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinson's disease, raising over $25K to run the marathon in London, 2023. In May, I participated in the Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City, Michigan with money I raised to support research for Type 1 Diabetes.
At the end of the summer, I traveled down under to run the Sydney Marathon by raising money for The Foundation for Tomorrow (TFFT) to earn my 6th star in the Abbott World Majors series. I am continuing to raise money for TFFT in order to run the Tokyo Marathon on March 1st to earn my final star. TFFT's mission is to secure quality education and emotional support for orphan and vulnerable children in Tanzania so that they may reach their full potential and thrive in their communities. Tanzania has one of the world's youngest populations and 5.1 million children are out of school. Only 28% of Tanzanian adolescents complete secondary school and only 1% enroll in higher education. I have been fortunate enough to help thousands of NYC students attend college over the past 25 years and have seen that access to higher education for all will help everyone live their best lives. Along with covering school fees, TFFT supports their scholars by providing basic school needs, medical insurance, psychosocial support and mentorship. I have seen the amazing work that TFFT has done first hand when I visited in 2017 and look forward to returning to Tanzania in the near future to see the growth that has taken place during that time.
I am asking you to consider helping me raise money to support these amazing children and bring awareness to the organization when I run the streets in Japan. You can donate HERE and remember, every dollar counts and no level of contribution is too small.
Thank you in advance. Your support means the world to me.
Sincerely,
Carey
